“ What a surprise on a way! We were just cruising on the West coast for the first time and found this gem! We used to live in Puerto Rico for years so were excited to stop! We ended up getting a bottle of coquito and empanadas yummmm both so good! The place looks like restaurants in Puerto Rico full of memorabilia and beautiful trinkets from Isla del Encanto! The owner and her staff were so sweet! We will definitely be back ”
“ Wow! All of the above; the food, service, and ambiance are amazing! I had a pernili with gandule rice and potato salad - Was so good that I ate the whole thing and the desserts are awesome! Will definitely come back for more. Very much appreciated. Thank you, Coquito's Latin Cuisine Waianae! ”
“ The atmosphere of this little up spot has been on my radar since moving to Waianae but we just haven't been able to make it by until this evening. It has a nice, warm and inviting outside area. The inside was closed when we arrived and we sat on the porch as my daughter requested. It's not upscale, though the plates and prices might be. I may not personally be Puerto Rican, but I grew up at backyard parties eating plate after plate of pernil and arroz y gandules. Tostones, empanadas and papas rellenos from a small Massachusetts suburb. My husband is also Puerto Rican, brother in law is Columbian and many of our friends are Latin. So this review comes from growing up and still cooking Puerto Rican dishes. I can taste the Latin flavors throughout the menu from other neighboring areas and I appreciate that they note that on the menus items. So I maybe just a bit biased on this one since I was hoping for so much more than what I got. The pernil here was terrific. Authentic, moist and the best part was I didn't have to season or cook it. I would have loved a piece of the chicharrones! The tostones were good and my salad was mixed greens and okay. My husband had the rice, Argentinian flank steak and tostones. The steak was pretty tender though a solid sear and medium rare would have knocked this dish out of the park. The chimichurri sauce was delicious. I did ask for an extra side of it and it cost an extra $3 for 2oz. I don't know until we received our check. I didn't note that on the menu. We ordered the empanadas appetizer which was delicious, but not a true empanada. It was more like a papa rellenos with chunks of potatoes. As good as they were it was not what I had expected. I saw a review that said they were small but now I see what they were talking about. The accompanying salsa was a perfect addition. Another $3.99 when I got another 2oz side of it. My daughter had a generous serving of rice and french fries with her cut up pieces of well cooked streak. We didn't order dessert. Mofongo is not something I have ever went out of my way to try regardless of where I have been over the years. ”
“ Absolutely amazing mofongo, tostones, pasteles, etc. Every thing from Coquitos is delicious! A must-stop for lunch if you're in Waianae. BYOB is also okay. Parking is a bit tight, but it's worth it!! ”
“ First timer here. I called in a take-out order on a Saturday evening and was told my order would be ready within 20min. They do have a delivery option thru Uber Eats if you don't want to pick-up your order. The parking lot is small, I was one of six vehicles so be wary of that, they may have more parking elsewhere, but I hadn't looked. When I arrived they had a nice set up of picnic tables for outdoor seating, there was a wheelchair access ramp to the left. The inside was small, but to me it looked cozy, a place you could definitely have intentional conversation. I ordered the Mofongo Garlic shrimp with gandule rice and potato salad. This was my first time trying this type of food and I really enjoyed it, the mofongo was super good with the excess butter garlic and the gandule rice was just perfect for me. So glad I tried this little spot! ”
